The objective of the Ances laboratory is to: 1) characterize HIV associated neurocognitive
disorders (HAND) using calibrated blood oxygen level dependent functional magnetic
resonance imaging (BOLD fMRI); 2) assess the impact of combination antiretroviral therapy
(cART) on calibrated BOLD fMRI. This work will delineate associations between calibrated
BOLD fMRI and surrogate cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) markers of inflammation and neuronal/glial
injury. The ultimate goal is to create a non-invasive neuroimaging tool for early detection and
treatment of HAND.
