SUMMARY: Department of Neuroscience Seminar: John Rubenstein\, MD\, PhD (UC
 SF)
DESCRIPTION: John Rubenstein\, MD\, PhD\, from the University of California
\, San Francisco is presenting a DoN Seminar titled Transcriptional Control
  of Cortical Cell Fate.

bryonic neural tube differentiates into diverse structures depending upon t
heir spatial coordinates. The forebrain\, which is at the rostral end of th
e neural tube\, differentiates into the cerebral cortex\, the basal ganglia
and other components\, each with distinct histologies and functions. The R
ubenstein Lab is interested in studying the genes that regulate regional sp
ecification and differentiation of the mammalian forebrain. In addition\, i
t has a long-standing interest in integrating these findings to better unde
rstand the development and evolution of forebrain neural systems and to hel
p elucidate mechanisms underlying human neurodevelopmental disorders such a
 s autism.</span></p>
