Collaborative team investigates protein that underlies CHARGE syndrome

December 22, 2021February 10, 2022
The upper right panel illustrates abnormal folds that appear in the mouse cerebellum due to a loss of CHD7, compared to a control mouse (upper left). Lower panels show unaffected tissue (left) and aberrant folding in the cerebellum (right) in a patient with CHARGE syndrome.

The researchers find that loss of the CHD7 protein in mice lead to changes in gene regulation and abnormal brain folds, indicating possible mechanisms for the rare neurodevelopmental disorder.
