Anthony Pappas recognized with teaching award, decided by medical students

Anthony Pappas, Ph. D., has been awarded the Stanley Lang Teacher of the Year Award. Pappas joined the department as an education-track faculty member in June 2025 and, in a short period of only nine months, has already made a significant impact on the training of future physicians. As an assistant professor of anatomy in neuroscience, Pappas aims to enhance the delivery of basic science education for future healthcare professionals – and is working toward this goal through his research which focuses on developing more effective, evidence-based teaching practices for medical students.

This award is one of a set of Distinguished Service Teaching Awards, which are initiated by WashU medical students annually and supported by the Office of Medical Student Education. Students nominate faculty and staff who exhibit dedication to student learning through high levels of patience and overall teaching efforts. The Stanley Lang Teacher of the Year Award honors an educator who serves as a role model and mentor to students by embodying the qualities of an exceptional physician. The award is named for Stanley J. Lang, Ph. D., a former professor of cell biology and physiology at WashU.

Pappas will be recognized at the 2025-2026 Distinguished Service Teaching Awards event on Monday, March 30th 2026.
